Children/Youth Choir Director

PURPOSE: To make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ by enriching the meaning of Sunday worship and special services. The director, by choosing appropriate anthems, solos and ensemble music, will be the orchestrating link between the choral pieces and the theological themes presented in worship according to the church year and needs of the congregation.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in music preferred, three years of experience as a children’s/youth choir director, knowledge of a wide variety of choral literature, and be able to work well with the organist, pastor(s) and other staff.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Children/Youth Choir Director shall be selected and appointed by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare choir for participation in worship services through regular rehearsals and recruitment of new children & youth choir members and promote faithful attendance at both rehearsal and performance.

Be aware of age-level appropriate music, expected skills and appropriate music for the theology of the congregation.

Select, order and maintain children’s & youth’s choir music, folders and charts, and prepare choir room for rehearsal.

Help prepare music for teaching, long-and short-term goals for choirs.

Enlist adult helpers for piano, organize choir parties, and so on.

Stay in close contact with parents and congregation concerning choir activities, through letters, church bulletin, church newsletter and bulletin boards.

Prepare children’s & youth choir to participate in worship monthly from September to May.

Submit annual budget request to Finance Committee and provide receipts and/or vouchers to church treasurer as needed.
TIME COMMITMENT: This is a part-time, salaried position. (3-5 hours per week)
EVALUATION: The Children/Youth Choir Director will be evaluated annually by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
