WOMEN'S MINISTRIES

United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women is a group of women in the church who are organized for mission. The local unit relates directly to the district and conference organization of United Methodist Women and to the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries.

Programs for the unit and the circles (subgroups) encompass mission, education, spiritual growth, and social action. Fund raising projects are options.

Unit meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month, four times a year.  Circles meet the second or third Wednesday of each month. Presently there are two morning circles, one afternoon circle, and one evening circle.

Any woman may belong if she is interested in the purpose of the organization and willing to support it with her prayers, financial gifts, and presence.

WomenSpirit

Remember all the development steps (CrossRoads) your children made as they grew: new teeth, crawling, talking, sleeping (or not) and of course, “why” questions?  You may be past that part of child rearing or you may be right in the middle of it.  WomenSpirit is a group composed of young mothers who meet together every second and fourth Friday morning (through the school year) at church.  A covenant relationship allows us to share deeply on issues of spiritual life, personal and childhood development.  Childcare is provided.  If you’d like to join this group, contact Amy Rhoades (397-4680).

Piece Corps

This is a group that creates beautiful banners for our worship spaces, and makes a quilt for each of baby of our church family when it is baptized.  The group meets the first Monday of the month (during the school year), as well as specially-planned times.  We talk and eat together as they continue in ministry.  Contact Mary Kepple (397-4420) for information.

Draw Near To God” 2007 Fall Women’s Retreat

Make your reservations now for the Fall Women’s Retreat at Templed Hills, October 5,6,7.  Begins Friday October 5 at 7 pm, ends Sunday following lunch meal.  This year we have reserved the whole Memorial building to accommodate more of us and more space for activities and rest.  Our theme this year, “Draw Near to God,” includes discovering more about creative Sabbath, uncovering our images of God, recognizing God’s passionate presence, ways to ‘altar’ your life, and tending the Fire within.

Sunday morning will include a joy-filled worship celebration.

You will have plenty of time for rest, relaxation, learning, creative activities and friendship.  Cost of the retreat is $95, which includes your room, board, all supplies, and retreat leadership. $50 deposit is due by September 1. Scholarships are available for those needing assistance to attend.  All women are welcome.  Make your reservations quickly, as spaces are filling now.  Call Debbie Baker at the church office, 392-6626 or email: debbie@gaystreetumc.org  to reserve your space.
