Something New!!! Church-wide Picnics, with a VBS theme.  This year we will be having Vacation Bible School picnics instead of our usual format.   Once a month this summer we will have VBS literature, crafts, games and songs to help teach the Good News of Jesus’ love. Everyone in the congregation is invited, whether you sit and chat or help a child learn of God.  Come enjoy the fellowship of an old fashioned picnic in the park.  We will end with singing for everyone.  Questions contact Trish Rankin 392-8158 or the church office 392-6626.   Helpers needed.

Children@CrossRoads Takes Summer Breather

What a generous and supportive congregation you are! Thank you for the money you gave to the children’s PET (Personal Energy Transportation) mission project. When this article was written, a total of $1,134.30 had been raised, which will buy four PETs and 54% of another one!

So many wonderful memories from our study of The Messiah this past year:

•a child on Palm Sunday, asking excitedly, “When is Jesus coming?”

•viewing Jonah’s baptism on the new DVD player

•the color photo of our water well in Nicaragua

•kids riding the PET that Tom and Ruth Andrew brought

•learning the importance of touch from Mary McCabe

•Lydia’s smiles as her mom taught us about organic farming

•kids having fun and learning while playing Isaiah carnival games

•watching the triplets bring in their book bags to send to Louisiana

•learning other names for Jesus

•the Jesse Tree in the library

•acting out the Elijah, Ahab, and Jezebel scripture

•the African objects that Beth Ferrell displayed

•touring the basement of the ISS building

•children leaping around the room to Handel’s Messiah

•Steve Tier’s portrayal of Charles Wesley on his 300th birthday

In addition to the entire church staff, several groups within the church, parents, and grandparents, those who worked directly with the children in Children@CrossRoads last year were the following: Becky Stewart, Barb Wilson, Heather Stewart, Sally Rife, Mary McCabe, Mary Kepple, Sandy Schisler, Fran   Rodstrom, Marge Rhoades, Carolyn Allar, Paul Spurgeon, Linda Spurgeon, Mindy   Ingalls, Steve Tier, Trish    Rankin, Dana Kemmer, Kami Diehl, LeeAnn Miner, Melissa Patterson, Barb Eddy, Samantha Hughes, Christy Burson, Christine Navin, Liz Hunnicut, and Janet Jennings.

The Water Well Is Built and Working

Last spring, Children@CrossRoads, with the help of several generous adults and the Varsity Class, sent $848 through UMCOR for the rehabilitation of a non-functioning water well in Los  Chaguites, Nicaragua.

Exciting update! We received an e-mail on December 11 saying that the project is now finished and the community is very happy with the results. They sent this photo showing families enjoying their new clean water source. No longer do the women and children have to carry water from the neighboring village.

The e-mail went on to say that the school children in Los Chaguites have received the package of drawings and photos we sent from Children@CrossRoads.  In addition to the rehab of the well in the photo that we funded, a second well was paid for by a school in Washington state. The villagers were able to build new latrines and a washing station where the women can gather to wash and chat while they improve their sanitation and their health.
