Jason Frazer
Building Supervisor
Professional carpenter. Tornado survivor. Reserve Champion horseback rider.
This is not a typical list of personal moments, but Jason Frazer can claim them all.
Jason’s variety and spice of life began early in his New England hometown of Etna, New Hampshire. Etna had all the earmarks of small town life with the extra advantages of modern technology and culture from nearby Dartmouth College.
It was at the college that Jason found some of his life’s passions. During the summers, Jason would help his father, a woodshop teacher, with summer classes on campus. The facilities were phenomenal, and he used the opportunity to hone his own woodworking skills.
At age 14, Jason began working at the horse facilities at Dartmouth making hay, helping with stable maintenance and working directly with the horses. The experience eventually led him to Cazenovia College where he earned a degree in equine business management. As a freshman, Jason won the title of Reserve Champion in Hunt Seat Equitation during the Intercollegiate Nationals in 1993.
After graduation, Jason ventured to Grand Lake, Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park. As a trail guide, Jason would spend anywhere from one to eight hours at a time helping people experience the mountains on horseback. It was there that he met his wife, Taffy, who was also a guide during her summer internship for Ohio State.
The two moved back to Ohio, returned to Colorado for a couple years, then back again to Ohio in 2000, where they have been ever since. After working as a carpenter for Behal, Sampson, Deitz in Columbus, Jason took the opportunity to be closer to home and his family and has been the building supervisor for Gay Street now for almost two years, where we can all witness his many gifts. As a youth, Jason was active in his United Church of Christ youth group, served on a youth cabinet that ran youth events all over New Hampshire, and has always been active in mission trips. Perfect training for his other current roles in the church as Project Noah leader and middle school youth group leader.
Through it all, Jason maintains admirable enthusiasm. It is important for Jason to have fun because otherwise "life becomes one of dull existence" which he believes we are not meant to live. In addition, he is constantly aware of the blessings in his life. When asked about Bible verses that have shaped his life, Jason was quick to share 1Corinthians 2:13 and 2Thessolonians 2: 9-12, which call us to be in constant search of the Truth. "I feel that people in general forget what God wants us to do. I am always looking for the truth in whatever I deal with to see if it is something that God wants us to take part in. I think that we are easily deceived by false truths and don’t realize that we have been misguided. I wish I had more time to research this, for it is a big concern of mine."
Oh, and tornado survivor? Jason’s easy to talk to as well. You can ask him yourself about that later.
