Sunday School and Study Opportunities
Varsity Class
The Varsity Class has been a part of Christian Education at Gay Street Church since 1927. While most of the current members will not see their 60th birthday again, they represent much more than tradition.
They are actively involved in seeking to know the scriptures and how God’s word applies to every aspect of life today. Each week, they read a lesson in preparation for discussion on Sunday, and they share their thoughts and questions during that meeting. It doesn’t end there. A member directory is compiled every year so members can easily keep track of one another. Calls, correspondence, and visits are a continuing activity, especially for shut-ins or members who may be ill or confined.
Cliff and Becky Stewart help with transportation, using the church van to carry members to and from church each Sunday. (Many are no longer able to drive.)
Besides other contributions of time and talent and giving to the unified budget, members bring a cash offering each week, which is distributed to a variety of missions and special needs.
The group takes seriously Christ’s call to live their Faith, grow their Faith, and share their Faith.
Contemporary Studies Class
This class for all ages focuses on discussion of contemporary issues and Bible studies. The group has been meeting for the past 25 years at 9:15am in room 102. The Contemporary Class follows information and discussion format. This class is open to any interested adult.
Starting March 11 the class will begin exploring "Embracing the Prophets in Contemporary Culture" presented by Walter Brueggemann a leading interpreter of the Old Testament. This six session study is a DVD presentation followed by discussion.

Adult Hospitality and Prayer
Red Parlor — 9:30 a.m. Education Hour
During our Sunday morning hour, folks share together while working on prayer shawls and having "God Talk" in our Red Parlor. Some knit, some crochet, and some loom, while others join us for the conversation. We are so grateful that we have been given the gift of a skill that allows us to create and share with others standing in the need of caring and prayer.
While we are gathered and working with our hands, we begin to talk and share with one another - cares, worries, joys and blessings. I have found that while creating and praying for the person or persons that may receive the shawl, I personally have grown spiritually in the process - become more aware of all that God does in life each moment.
This fall we are tweaking our open circle of fellowship to include prayers and thoughts from the book: Knit Together Discover God’s Pattern for Your Life by Debbie Macomber. Our circle is open, come join us in the parlor on Sunday morning. No - you do not have to knit or crochet - just come and join in as we "be" and as we continue to discover God's pattern for our lives.
A special Knitters Class will be starting soon.
Wired Word
Conversation around the day’s news using scripture and "wired" questions to confront the issues with biblical grace. Once a week the leader will distribute the topic, scripture and questions to the group from this on-line service. The class then meets to discuss on Sunday Mornings in room 100.
